Substitute Percussion Teacher 16/3 - 31/8 2026 for the Orchestra School El Sistema in Södertälje

A day at work:

You arrive at our premises in Hovsjö in the morning and check in with your colleagues about the day's work. In the afternoon, you lead the work with percussion ensembles with students aged 8 – 20 years, and later you participate when the orchestras rehearse, either as a teacher and/or conductor. You also take part in organizing family evenings, concerts, and projects.
Working hours are generally scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM, but may vary slightly, and flexibility is important. Some weekend and holiday work may occur. The position is 60% of full-time. Start date is negotiable.

Who are you?

Requirements:
- We are looking for someone with a university degree or other education/experience that the employer deems equivalent, in music and pedagogy with percussion as the main instrument.
- You have several years of experience teaching children and youth aged 5 - 20 years.
- You have experience, knowledge, and methodology for working with larger groups.

Meritorious:
- Experience with El Sistema activities or similar.
- Familiarity with planning and structuring teaching over a longer period.
- Knowledge in conducting, piano playing, arranging, and composition.

Personal qualities:
- You are a stable, brave, communicative, and solution-oriented person who is engaged in issues related to students' learning and the role of education and culture in societal development.
- You have an approach that believes in students' participation.
- You are interested in developing and conducting percussion activities together with your colleagues.
- You have your own drive, are collaborative, and are inspired by working in a team with colleagues, and you are interested in working with children.
- You have a high degree of responsibility and are used to working both independently and in groups.

About us

El Sistema is a model for an inclusive orchestra school that now exists in about 60 countries. Here in Södertälje, 12 teachers work with group instruction on symphony orchestra instruments. Our activities involve over 400 children from preschool up, and currently, we work in three areas in Södertälje – Hovsjö, Västergård, and Saltskog, with the base in Hovsjö.
